When we were in Japan recently, Ruth and I quickly realized that Japanese culture was both very different from the U.S. and fascinating. For example, September 15 is a big holiday, Respect for the Aged Day.
According to WORLDPOST, only 1% of the Japanese, understandably, celebrate December 25 with a traditional Christmas. However, on December 25 they flock to Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises to celebrate Kurisumasu Ni Wa Kentakki. KFC promoted Xmas meals when it arrived in 1974 and created a new tradition.
Aspen, CO, celebrated a very mainstream July 4 yesterday with a traditional parade, a patriotic free concert, and 9:15 pm fireworks. Ruth and I attended all 3.
